An Introduction to Mirik - The Burst Hill Tourist Spot

Mirik is a small hill station in the district of Darjeeling, in India which is a very famous tourist spot in the area. Mirik, located at an altitude of 1495 metres (4904 feet) has an all round pleasant climate throughout the year with a maximum temperate of 30°C in the summers and 2°C in the winters. Mirik is often referred as 'The Burnt Hill'.
The most attracting thing about Mirik is the beautiful Sumendup Lake which is a natural feature in this hill station. Due to this lake, hundreds of tourists from India as well as abroad visit this place. During winter times, the lake spot is filled with people who come for picnics, excursions and tours. The Sumendup Lake is also an important place as a picnic spot.
Mirik is connected with roads from Siliguri, Kurseong and Darjeeling. Mirik also acts as a pathway to Nepal as the Nepal border Pasupati, is just 14 kms away from the town of Mirik, which takes about a half an hour drive from this place. Therefore, tourists visiting Mirik, often visit Pasupati too as Pasupati acts as very good shopping destination for tourists.
Mirik is about 55 kilometres from Siliguri and 50 kms from Darjeeling. Both the places are connected with road by taxi and buses. The Bagdogra International Airport is located about 55kms from the town and the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is about 60 kms from Mirik.

Tourists visiting this place mostly accommodate themselves in hotels located in Krishnanagar, which is a place near the lake as hotels here are near the lake and thus attract more tourist. The market place Mirik Bazar is located at about 2 kms away from Krishnanagar which is a small market for the local people.
