Dashain Celebration at Mirik

Dashain this year was amazing at Mirik like always though the weather was not so fine and the sunny warm weather was missing this year, still it was good to see the festive atmosphere at Mirik. The crowded market at Mirik Bazar, where people from all parts of Mirik, and other nearby areas like Okayti, Soureni, Mirik Basti, Murmah, Seeyok, Pasupati, etc , where there busy shopping for the occasion of Dusherra.

One really good thing this year 2010, was that Durga Puja was also organized at Super Market, Mirik Bazar which made the occasion of Dashain more bright and festive. This year it was cold and shivering dusherra, still I hope everyone enjoyed the Dashain celebration.

A View of Oranges from Mirik Busty

Mirik is also very popular for the Orange orchards. It is one of the highest producers of oranges in North Bengal.
As one proceeds towards Mirik Busty, one may see beautiful orange orchards, with organes of various sizes, from green to orange in colour, hanging in the orange trees. I guess these orange gardens are one of the natural botanical heritage, that even tourists visiting Mirik love to watch, see and roam around.

In places, like Soureni busty, there are so many people who depend there daily bread on these orange farming and this industry of oranges can grow more than what it is today.
One may even see tourists on the pony backs visiting and touring across Orange Orchards and feeling lost amidst these beautiful orange gardens. I believe Mirik still has a lots more potential to increase and implement this and I hope people realise it soon and make Mirik a more beautiful place to see and visit.

SAVE MIRIK LAKE - Water Pollution in Mirik Lake

Mirik lake is a beautiful natural attraction and a jewel to Mirik, where people from all over the world come too see and appreciate. It is the lake that attracts all tourists coming to Mirik and thus tourism really boosts the income of the local people here in Mirik, whether it is Krishnanagar or Mirik Bazar.

Well, I suppose the local residents as well as the ones visiting Mirik and Sumendup Lake have noticed that people are heavily polluting the Mirik lake where hundreds of fishes live, and thereby water pollution is causing a threat to the survival of those fishes, frogs and other faunas living in the Mirik Lake.

Water pollution especially in the form of garbage disposal, as well as the contamination of detergents and soaps by locals cause the water pollution. It is a common view in the areas like the Shiv Mandir, the Dhuppi Dhara side, the region below Thurbo School, where people wash clothes, take bath, and contaminate soap and other harmful chemicals in Mirik lake. Residents from Mirik bazar are the ones too coming here and causing pollution.

I see that there is no restriction by the Municipality of Mirik or any such organization to control water pollution in Mirik lake. I really think people and residents from Mirik,Mirik bazar, Krishnanagar, etc should take some steps to stop these things from happening.
